So this guy wants a million freakin dollars for his "all original except for the strap button"  ES-175

I'm gonna offer him $150 because of the strap button issue.

Also I wish I could get in touch with his drug dealer, sounds like this guy is smoking some quality grass if he thinks this guitar is worth what he is asking.  I'd love to get THAT stoned

I mean, honestly what is it worth?  Maybe 10K?  20K?  I know old Gibby's are worth something, but a million?

well i have seen quotes for prices exceeding $100,000 but despite the rareitity i doubt the value is significantly increased by it being a lefty unless it was played or owned by someone important. how much more value can you add to something valued at that much i mean really?
nobody is gonna say well i have a million to spend and i'd like a left handed guitar, not gonna happen. this may be worth more than comparabe right handed models but then again it might be worth less i dont know i just know rarity and value aren't the same thing. someone has to want it and i cant imagine someone wanting it a million dollars bad.

I thought this was just funny.  I mean ROTFLMFAO!!!  (I just figured this one out and wanted to use it!!)

It's like anything, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.  And I doubt that anyone is willing to pay that!!!  Maybe the guy likes to waste his money on Ebay fees?

The description makes the guy sound Japanese in some parts. I wonder if he means 1,000,000 yen. That would be about $11,000, which would be about right.

Says the guitar is in Huntsville Alabama.

I offered him $300, he turned it down of course.

Well; I don't know exactly what this guy's situation is, but have seen more than one eBay auction that was placed mainly to placate the wife/girlfriend; "Honey, I tried to sell it but nobody wants to pay what it's worth, guess I'll have to keep it....."

Most simple explanation:

- "Dear, you never play this old thing.  We need money, why don't you sell it?"

- "I love that guitar, I'm not selling it!"

- "But you never play it.  Either you sell that or your (insert boat, car, motorcycle or some other thing the person loves more than the guitar here)."

- "Okay, I'll put it up on Ebay first thing in the morning..."

That only works if the wife is a spaced-out dingbat. Anyone else is going to look for results from the sale of something percieved as unnecessary.

So, bogus ad doesn't work to sell guitar? Fine. Sell the (insert boat, car, motorcycle or some other thing the person loves more than the guitar here). If the spouse is hateful enough to force the dismissal of a treasured belonging, it will not matter which belonging it is. Something is going to go, one way or another. If the guy has any sense, it'll be the spouse.

he could just be trying to draw attention. a lot of people will list instruments (vintage only, really) for way more than they're worth (never seen a mil before, but i'll believe it!) just to get some people talking. these sorts of things draw all sorts of attention from sites like www.elderly.com and others.

if thats NOT what he's doing then he's insane. even if it is... a million? really?

A lot of people marry spaced-out dingbats.  Usually other spaced-out dingbats.  And who says it's a wife?

All I'm saying is if I don't want to sell something, but I feel I have to price it (usually when I enter my artwork in shows), then I way over-price it so that it probably won't sell.  But hey, if it does, I got a lot of money from it.  People do it all the time.
