Nice work. Here's my now 7 year old lab Elven (christmas dog) when we got him. He's one of my best friends, but you have to watch your shoes around him.  :icon_thumright:

We have 2 dogs .... the 1st pic is our 12 year old Golden Lab named Kayouk (which, apparently, is a Northern Canadian Aboriginal word meaning "blonde"), and the 2nd pic is a dog we are currently fostering for an animal rescue organisation.  She is a 2 1/2 year old Lab/Setter mix named Katie.  Before the rescue organisation got her, she was headed for that great kennel in the sky.  As this thread will be read by "dog people", please tell me what kind of piece of human filth would abandon an animal as adorable as her!

Rufus!  He's a six year old Lab and Pit Bull mix.  I've had him since he was two weeks old and we had to feed him with a bottle.  He's super loyal and sweet as can be.  He's great with kids and gentle.  I bring him to the jewelry store with me daily.

I have a Basenji.  His name is Q, and he is the best dog ever.  He is 15 now, and I'm starting to freak out because I know we don't have much longer with him.  But we're trying to enjoy the time we have left.  He is still in pretty good shape though, and he still plays with the cat and runs around like a puppy on occasion, so maybe we have a few good years left.  He is hands down the smartest dog I've ever met.  He is one of those animals you could swear not only understands every word you say, but can also read your mind. He does a bunch of weird stuff, such as sneaking up on his water dish before he drinks out of it.  He's a very entertaining character.

Layla is my full time helper except when I'm spraying lacquer, and then she has to go in the house because she won’t ware a respirator. The first picture was when she was a 3lb leaf shredder in 2007 and the second picture was last spring, a fully mature 9lb queen bee.

I like cats, but I grew up around dogs.  I long for the day when I have the time to look after a dog properly ( cant at the moment, due to work commitments).

But,  Here is my mum's dog Ruby, she's a cocker spaniel, and her best friend Jaques (who lives next door).  He's a Dogue de Bordeaux (French Mastiff) and he's huge.  His head is the same size as mine, and I've got a big head.

Here is Ruby when she was about  10 weeks old

Uh, I'm a bit disappointed at what I'm *not* seeing here.  You work in a jewelry store, yet I see no bling on Rufus!!!!!!! :dontknow:  A studded collar would be good for starters....

Here is My 4 year old  Husky/Malamute mix Loki and he lives up to the name (norse mythology "god of mischief"). He has all the energy of a husky and all the stubbornness of a malamute!  He drives me to drink on a daily basis but couldn't imagine life without him. Definitely mans best friend

What a cute little bugger! Pit/lab mixes are the best.

I always liked dogs and hated cats (since one give my a cut when I was 8 and tried to hug one :laughing7:) but since my friend got a Dogo Argentino/sharpei mix (also known as the Argentine Dogo or Argentinian Mastiff) which basically is a big pitbull and needs lots of space and exercise and was completely denied this... so, everytime you went to play with the god-damned-bugger, he would freak out...

So, I started to hate dogs and love cats... my girlfriend is a little crazy and has 9 cats and 4 dogs and I'm starting to like dogs again... will try to have a house and will see if I get a dog, perhaps Pit Bull or something, if it's a HUGE house, if not will see what I can do...

I'll probably get a dog again someday.  For now cats work well.
I had a Samoyed & an American Eskimo (like a 3/4 size samoyed) when I was little and in my teens I had a couple Greyhounds.  They're awesome dogs, more catlike personalities really.  Lay around most of the day.  Retired racers really take that 'retired' part to heart.

Wife has this spineless excuse of a weiner dog. Scared to death of the cat. When he moved in after the wedding, first thing she [cat] did was set the record straight about just who's house this was after all. He's been terrified ever since.

Fast forward 4 years, and the evil beast has finally warmed up to spineless wimp living in her house. Just the other night, dog and wife were on the couch. Cat jumps up and gets in his face to try and make friends. He WILL NOT look at her. Cat reaches out a paw to touch him (or possibly torment him ala Eddie Haskell,  but I think this is well intentioned) - dog actually STANDS UP against the back of the couch and TURNS AROUND while STANDING so as to get his face away from the cat without getting any part of his body any closer than absolutely necessary to her.

foghorn-bury-the-hatchet.jpg

He doesn't know she's just barely touching him here.

The Family used to have a Catahoula.  The monster was 130 lbs of Curious and Persistent, or pigheaded and annoying as we translated it.  Still, he was a great dog, and an integral part of the family.  Since he caused my Mom to have both shoulders go through physical therapy, the next dog was/is a lot smaller.  Mac is a Bichon / Shih Zhu mix.  Not exactly an alpha dog, but entertaining as all get up.  The steal the toy game can go on for what seems like forever.  And every time I get the toy, the indignant, incredulous yelp always is worth a laugh.  But, back to the Game!
Patrick

Roscoe, the Leonberger. Highly recommended breed. Bred primarily for companionship way back in the day by some castle-owning Germans. Meant to look like a majestic lion (kinda worked?)

cross between Pyrenees, Newfoundland, and Mountain Dog. A big dog that doesn't drool and whose main goal in life is to spend as much time hanging with you as it can. Roscoe is really cool. He is happy to go for walks, chill and read a book, or run around the front yard. and if you're not available, he'll just chill with the kitty cats. (see cat thread). They are companions, but learn other things well, because of their working dog ancestors like the Newfies and the mountain dogs.

Wow, your dog likes to chill out and read books. How sophisticated. I wish I could get my lab to do that. What's his favourite genre?   :toothy11:
