Not to self. To avoid unwanted stress in the future, avoid installing vintage style tuners. šŸ˜‚

When I did my Gold top, I got it with Planet Waves tuners and those were a lot easier. I don't even remember sanding out the inside of the holes. This took a lot more effort.

Also lining the tuners up was nerve wracking.

But, I do think they look cool so it's worth it. :hello2:

Taking a break until my hands stop shaking šŸ˜‚

Oh and I have a challenge: someone find another pic of a tele or strat neck with this style of tuner. šŸ˜œ

I don't think we will find that picture easily.

Your guitar is going to look quite special I think.

I seen me a mermaid once. Even seen me a shark eat a octopus. But I ainā€™t never seen me no Strat neck with ivoroid Keystone tuners.... Looks killer! What an excellent detail.

Got some more stuff done. The pickups and switch/wiring/pots are all in place. Just need to finish soldering. The curved rings gave me some issue. Maybe flat would have been better. I don't think the carve top is as curved as my gold top.

Taking a break now. Might get some more done after work this week, if I feel like it. If not IlI' resume on Thursday.

Oh and I just want to say that I'm super pleased with the figuring of the maple. It's outstanding for just the basic level flame maple. It's better than what I was expecting, though I had hope that Warmoth would hook me up.

Veeeeery nice.
Reminds me of one of Johan Gustavssonā€™s models:

The way I see it, if you're out to emulate a classic Les Paul look, moderate figuring is the most you want.Ā  The era of extremely figured hardwoods regularly being fitted on LP's didn't really kick in until late in the game, comparatively speaking.

This is such a lovely axe you're building.Ā  The ivoroid keystone tuners are a hell of a touch.

I know it's been a while but I was sick and busy and then I had a minor set back (I didn't know a carved top tele wasn't thick enough for a square jack plate. Doh!) - but today I finally got this thing all together. Now after a few years of tweaking and breaking in, it should be kick ass. šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚ It has a couple of minor issues but I'll work those out over time. Mainly I screwed up something with the wiring, but it's an easy fix. Also the low E and A are kind of noisy (not on the frets though) but I suspect the bridge slots need some filing.

The neck is FAT but feels good. I had no issues getting used to it. I'm worried now it might spoil my other guitars for me.

I'll try to take some better pics soon.

When can I submit for guitar of the month?šŸ˜œ

That's a honey of an axe, for sure.Ā  (See what I did there?)

Submit that for the next pro-finished GOTM, and you're a contender, no doubt.Ā  Congratulations on a sweet guitar.Ā  May you enjoy many happy years together.

Call it a belated 50th Birthday present to yourself.Ā  Happy Birthday!

Beautiful, vor sure. Nice job. Congrats.

Congrats on having made it a half a century, too.

You just had to burst out with that, didn't ya?

Iā€™ve seen lots of versions of the ā€œLes Teleā€ or ā€œLesterCasterā€ or whatever you want to call it, and this one captures the vibe way more than most. Really good work here, congratulations.
