Tele project underway

Greetings all! I've finally pulled the trigger on a complete Warmoth build. I previously got a rosewood over roasted maple neck for a Squier Strat & love it. At the time I was really gassing for a Mooncaster but since then I've gotten a Cort Yorktown BV hollow body with a pair of humbuckers and a Bigsby so that particular itch is scratched for now. But being a huge fan of both Bill Kirchen and Roy Buchanan I had to have a Telecaster. So I ordered up a chambered swamp ash in Tobacco sunburst, no comfort contours with parchment, and a rosewood over roasted maple neck in standard thin, 10"/16" radius with stainless 6105 frets and mop face dots and side dots. Now if I can only keep form getting buried under a bunch of mundane tasks this weekend, like mowing the lawn I can make some progress.

I still have some supplies to round up. Shielding stuff and what not. I honestly thought I'd have at least a couple more weeks to get all my ducks in a row. I ordered this stuff on the 16th of March.

Cheers......................Todd

Very cool Todd. Welcome to the forums, and welcome to the fold! That tele looks killer. Love a good tobacco burst telecaster. What are you thinking for pickguard/pickups etc? Traditional single coils, hum cancelling? Looking forward to seeing this come together. I'm JD, by the way. Nice to meet you!  :occasion14:

EDIT: My apologies. The picture with the white pickguard didn't load for me until I refreshed the page. Good choice!

Thanks JD. I fixed the pictures, hopefully they should have the right orientation and be of a more manageable size now.

I have a Seymour Duncan broadcaster set to go in it. And a four way switch. Planning to flip the control plate Bill Kirchen style.

Very cool! Looking forward to seeing its completion. I just got my first Roasted Maple neck in. I'm shocked by how good it feels, and the guitar isn't even assembled yet! They're really something, aren't they?  :icon_thumright:

Looks nice. Classy. Simple and elegant.
I too like the color. I prefer that over a more traditional sunburst.
Keep the images coming and how about some soundclips when it's ready?

Thanks guys!

Have you burnished it yet? What an amazing transformation! And it's so good right out of the box! That's been my project this morning.

Last night I rounded the fret ends a bit. Next I'll give them a bit of a polish. I'm going to forgo the fret level & crown until I've played it a couple months. The fret rocker shows a few slightly high (or low) ones on one end or other or in the middle but they're not too bad. I've played my Stratocaster for over a year untouched, just how they came out of the box with the action at 4 1/2 and 3 1/2 64ths without noticing anything and they seem about the same.

Todd, yes I have burnished it, up to 1500 grit. Didn't take any pics of the procedure as I forgot to. I forget things a lot.  :dontknow:

Dropping it off for assembly tomorrow, as I don't trust myself with fretwork yet, and I only have one beater guitar to practice on, so it'll be a while until I feel comfortable.

Cheers! -JD

Nice, Yeah I always forget to take pictures & document things. I'm really trying to do it this time. :) I saw that shot of the new neck, that looks awesome. The headstock almost looks like Canary.

Here's mine after burnishing. It turned out pretty well.

I'm going to start a thread in the "Work in progress" area.

Cheers.....................Todd
