Tele Deluxe

Here I go again, this time with even less forethought and vision.  I ordered a wenge/ebony CBS neck and a vintage-white alder Tele Deluxe body from the showcase today.  For the pickguard, I ultimately choose black, but now I am thinking I should have gone with tortuous shell (my first instinct).  I ordered the neck with stainless 6105 frets, a TUSQ nut, and Kluson tuners.  I am going with chrome/nickel hardware.  For the body, I requested that they increase the size of string-though holes for the narrow spaced hardtail bridge.  For pups, I ordered a Rio Grand Texas Barbeque Humbucker set w/ nickel covers.

Just in case someone notices, the body I linked to below isn't the one I ordered.  I ordered over the phone, and I don't remember the body number.  This one is ash, not alder, but it looks just like the other one.  :)

Nice! Look forward to seeing it come together.

It's never to late to change the pickguard. I was up against the same dilemma. Black is nice but Tortoise has a lot of interesting appeal to it.

What contour is that neck?

++ on the nickle/chrome hardware.

I'm putting together a 'tribute' vintage style tele, and am agonising over the pickguard.  The finish will be natural (rather than butterscotch) and the neck will be maple/rosewood, so theoretically the pickguard should be white (late 50's look).  However the 'tribute' aspect really comes down to using vintage tuners, Fender CS nocaster pups, callaham bridge/saddles & traditional 3 way switch / wiring, so I think I can get away with a tortoise guard (because I like the look).
The purpose of the above (apart from justifying stuff to myself) is to encourage the tortoise pg - they look great!

Hey,
Ya got a great looking build goin' on there.  :headbang1:
I love that vintage white with the tortuous pickguard.  Looks great!
I am also diggin' that wenge CBS neck.
I will stay tuned to this station.  I am anxious to see the final episode...

The BEST reason to do it.  Because you like the look.  You gotta play it... You gotta pay for it.

:kewlpics: :rock-on:

The profile is Standard Thin.  I have the same profile on my Strat and I love it.  I am really excited about the Wenge neck.  I hope it lives up to the hype.  I have a Rosewood on my J-Bass and a Canary on my Strat.  I have to admit that I'm still favoring the Canary.  I can feel the grain on my Canary neck.  It feels slick and fast.  Indian Rosewood just feels flat and silky smooth.

Funny, I went with gold hardware for my first two builds, and I think gold fits those guitars well.  In this case, I want to build a guitar that feels great to play and looks like it belongs at a gig.

On Wenge the grain is even more pronounced than on Canary, not in a bad way though.  It's a different feel but is surprisingly slick.

The tortoise guard does look sweet on that body.  Get both and see which you like.

I've always liked tortuous on Strats with contrasting pickup covers and knobs.  I just wasn't sure on the Deluxe.  I was thinking of going with traditional Deluxe style knobs, and I just didn't think it would look good with the nickel humbuckers.  But, I also don't know about the black pickguard with the dark browns in the neck. Aesthetically, black and brown don't mix... wait, who does that sound like?  :)

lol... I know, but does ebony truly appear black under bright light??  Actually, I am kind of half kidding because we are not talking about pants and shoes here.  I think it's nonsense to think this way about guitars.  Black and brown have been seen repeatedly on attractive guitars.  Those old Fender CBS rosewood guitars look fantastic with their black pickguards.  And, there is nothing wrong with a Fender black-red-yellow burst, a rosewood fretboard, and a tortuous pickguard.  It's a classic combo on a Jazz Bass!

Now, what color shoes should I wear with this build?  :)

I feel purple or possibly green Chucks would be in order...  :headbang1:
Remember to buy the left one from CB.  Itll have a thicker sole to counter any neck dive issue you ever run across.  :laughing7:

Parts arrived on Monday, but I had to send the body back.  :(  I'll be getting the swamp ash Deluxe body, also vintage white.  In the meantime, I think I am going to try out the wenge on my Strat :)

Thanks man. I'm sure I will. Now I need to think about what I'm gonna do regarding the neck, woods etc.

Unfinished rosewood neck and board sounds cool, but I've never owned a guitar with an unfinished neck and worry about it looking crappy over time and feeling rough and raw to the touch, or are these not things I should worry about?
