Tele Deluxe Ideas

Well, I'm old enough to remember the red light district, (42nd St) in NYC back in it's hey day!

Come to think of it, I have also visited Rue St Cathrine in Montreal as well. What can I say?!

Anyway, back on topic, wide range humbuckers of any form (other than MIM Re-issues) would be my choice for this Deluxe project!

I've got a '72 Tele Custom RI, which is similar.  The pickguards on the Custom and Deluxe are enormous, covering most of the front.  I've always disliked that, but can't picture it without them.  I've often thought they would look nice with the control layout the same, but mounted in the body like an LP.  The pickguard could be replaced by the Thinline Hybrid pickguard that Warmoth does.

Lol.  Aesthetically, the pickguard and fat strat headstock are the two things that made me notice the tele deluxe.  I actually like the large pickguard.  The shape compliments the tele body very well, I think.

I think if you ditched the pickguard, but kept the original style pickups (Fender Wide Range), you would have troubles locating pickup mounting rings for them.

The only guitar that Fender had with those pickups mounted on rings was the Starcaster, I think, and they are pretty hard to come by, let alone just the pickup rings.

You could whip up a dandy set of pickup mounting rings from black plexiglas, lexan, pvc, abs, phenolic or even wood. It takes a little doing but can certainly be done. It would look really cool too!

I'm not sure but I don't think they offer a rear routed option on a deluxe, so no pickguard isn't an option.

Jack the hack built a thinline mahogany telecaster with mahogany neck and ebony fretboard.  He put in P-90's, but I see humbuckers in yours.  If you do a search I'm sure you can find it.  It was a stunningly beautiful guitar.

Johnny Lang used to have a couple of Fender Custom Shop Tele Thinlines with those pickups and P-90 in the middle.  The Fender pickups were in mounting rings.  They may be hard to find, but they do exist.  I apologize for the pic size.
