Tele Body w/ Hombre Neck?

I've got a Classic Vibe tele body sitting around that I was going to throw a set of TV Jones into but it also needs a neck. I've been gloriously happy w/ wenge 59 roundback tele and strat necks on my other guitars, which are all 25.5" scale. So I got to thinking if I need a neck anyway and have plenty of more standard Tele options, why not throw a Gibson scale length neck on this Tele?

I assumed I'd just do that w/ a standard Tele shaped neck, but then I got to thinking that a tilted headstock w/ Gibbo scale length might be more appropriate. And visualizing an Hombre neck w/ a Tele body has me kinda thinking of Danelectro single cutaways and other cheapie 60's guitars.

Has anyone attempted this? Anything I need to watch out for?

You will be left with small gaps due to the rounded neck heel and square neck pocket, but even without a scratchplate they're hardly noticeable and pretty much invisible with.

If you get a 22 fret neck, I believe the fretboard overhang obscures the gaps, even without the scratchplate (or pickguard as we say over here in 'Murrica).

I've done a number of conversion necks with zero issues. Bolts on the same and intonates properly. The shorter scale means a bit less tension on the strings for a given tuning, which translates into slightly less "twang", but other than that there are no issues.

Definitely not suggesting it's an issue at all - my main Warmoth 'stunt' guitar is a Tele with a rounded-heel 24 3/4" conversion neck. Just thought it was worth a heads-up as some people seem to find it worrying.

Right. That little gap isn't noticeable unless you're looking for it, and even then in most cases it's essentially hidden by the pickguard.

I was surprised to see there was no choice in the builder for heel style for that neck style. Not sure why that is.

I have some sentimental reasons for wanting a padouk neck, but if I didn't go that route I'll probably just get roasted maple. And I would have simple dot inlays.

Please excuse how sloppy this looks but it's a quick hack in Photoshop w/ existing pics:

I've done it.  Wound up selling it.  My hands are to big for the gibby necks.  Otherwise it was killer.  Go for it.

Hey everybody, just FYI: you can get pretty much any neck with a non-standard heel shape by calling in.

For example: want an Hombre Gibson®-scale Conversion neck with a Tele-shaped heel? The answer is yes!  :bananaguitar:
