Got the headstock painted yesterday while I had the booth setup for the 2k on the Meadowhawk. The wife made me some waterslide decals so I’m gonna try that today. Now the rain is moving back in so I can’t start the clear over it.

I know you ‘shouldn’t’ put fake Fender decals on, but this is a vintage replica for me, not trying to pass it off…..

As a rattlecan user, how do you clean the gun and stuff and how do you know how much to mix up for each coat?

You gotta sometimes partially dismantle (depending on gun) and soak or flush them out with appropriate thinner until it is clean.

As a rattlecan user, how do you clean the gun and stuff and how do you know how much to mix up for each coat?

For the Nitro it’s easy since you just thin it a little depending on the temp, etc, and after doing a few I know how much to use wach time for 3 coats. I keep a separate jar to put leftover thinned material in for next time so no waste. Cleaning is really easy, Acetone and the little brushes it came with. Take the nozzle out, and pull off the fluid adjustment knob and spring and clean up individually. Then I just spray air through everything. Takes about 5 mins.

Now 2K is a different story, and I’ve decided I really don’t like spraying it……

I don’t spray above 55% humidity. Since I’m in TX I don’t have much choice to spray when it’s 100 unless I don’t want to do anything for 4 months, .
The nitro hasn’t given me any problems with the heat. Primer, Color and Clears all go down super nice. It’s a joy to work with.

The 2K supposedly isn’t as finicky for humidity, but seems to be for everything else……

Ah, I see. So 90 and a dew point of 70 is ok but 70 and a dew point of 60 is no good. I basically get May and Sept-October to spray nitro then here.

When I was messing with rattle can paints (I assume urethane) and even at cold temps and high relative humidity they laid down nicely. I heated the garage up about 10 degrees above ambient and it works great.

I have a couple of bodies I need to paint, so debating my next steps. Either way, great guitar you’ve got!

Thanks. I think up to 65% is probably OK, but I just don’t risk it. I’m definitely no expert though, just going by what works for me. Luckily the heat hasn’t caused any issues yet though
