Surf Green Jazz Body

A "resurgent surf scene"? Where, pray tell, is it resurging? Not that I'm any kind of publicist, agent or social butterfly who'd know what's in and what's thin, but as close as I can tell, surf died a very long time ago.

I submit that if you pay a great deal of attention to something and fashion your world around it, it will seem to be a Major Thing regardless of reality. We all live in our own little worlds we create for ourselves.

Those damn Hipster kids have recently discovered surf in the Boston area, and I've seen half a dozen new bands in the last year or two.  Most of them tend to trend towards the western and/or rockabilly end of the spectrum.  There's one that actually pretty damn good, something about the dangers of a ghost scorpion(?).

Charlie Northern, a friend of mine, and the rest of his surfy but not quite surf band, just left Boston as the hipsters started getting into it. :toothy12: They'll be going back soon. Thanks for sharing that band. Fun stuff.

Couple of years ago....
3 members from 'Midnight Oil' and 1 from 'The Violent Femmes' formed a so-called surf band called 'The Break'

If still in doubt about the 'death' of surf, just go to the aforementioned surfguitar101.com.
Some great players hang there.

But surf isn't all 60's tribute bands. It's evolved. It's like if someone wanted to know about metal and I told them to listen to ACDC and Metallica. Very narrow, and arguably not metal. Metal has come a long way, as has surf.
Too bad the same can't be said of the human race...or this poor guy's decimated project thread :icon_biggrin:!

Man, Dave Wronski (slacktone) is a guy who's never used the rhythm circuit of that awesome glitter turquoise jag.

Wronski also has a great guitar face - looks like a young man enjoying the charms of a woman for the first time --- "holy crap, I'm actually doing this!"

Also, this is fun.  Reminds me of a recent post by Cagey in which he suggested that someone could do worse than to take 50's/60's schmaltzy love songs and turn them into rock guitar instrumentals.  It's surf, not hard rock, but still:

Slacktone covers a medley of Don't Worry Baby/ Be My Baby

A local college radio station hosts a 'battle of the surf bands' every year.  This year, it's in Pacifica at The Surf Spot.  16....16 surf bands, including my neigbor's Aloha Screwdriver, Meshugga Beach Party and the ultratight Trivalve.
