Suggestions for removing an autograph from paint

If it's George W Bush's signature, that geetar won't be worth squat. Throw it out, you will never remove that taint. Has anyone contemplating reading his autobiography yet?  :laughing7:

At first I was only kidding, now I'm really curious.

Hitler?  Charles Manson?  Sarah Palin?  Carrot Top?  Kathy Griffin?  A judge from Dancing with the stars?  Barry Williams?

If the finish is nitro.... and its a sharpie, you're pretty well F'd on getting it off without some sanding and possibly clear coat touch up, or possibly it wont come off at all till you're down to bare wood.

FWIW, I wouldn't touch Joan Jett with a 10 foot pole.

Didn't your mamma ever say "Don't touch that, you don't know where it's been?"  Well, in some cases, you do know.

Ed....Van Halen?  If so, does he have black hardware?

DING DING DING DING!!!!

we have a winner!

It's a Kramer Baretta. Eddie didn't have black hardware, but mot of the Kramers did at that time. The guitar was also signed by Sammy Hagar, both autographs are on the front.

I was wondering what the response would be.  :glasses9:

They were on the guitar when I bought it. I've never had any interest in anyone's autograph, so I figured I would try to remove them at some point. Maybe the question I should be asking here is, do these sigs make it more valuable to the right buyer? Not that I was looking to earn big bucks on it... I have considered selling it, as I haven't played it much since I got it (at least two years ago).

So who wants to buy this fine guitar?

Did you orchestrate this entire thread just to drum up interest in an Ebay auction?

you villain you.

Yeah, it's all orchestrated, from signing up on the forum, to investing in my Warmoth body and neck, all of it... just so you would be interested in an auction. <evil laugh> HA HA ha.  :toothy10:

I really didn't think this would get such an intense reception. When I bought it, my first plan was to have the paint stripped and then finished like one of the old "guitart" Kramers, but I kind of let that idea die off. So I started thinking about removing the marker stuff since it would've been gone anyway.

Okay, you EVH-Hagar-signature-lovers, answer me this: why shouldn't I remove it? What benefit is it to me, if I have no interest in autographs? The only reason I can see for keeping them is the value in selling to someone who wants that.

Excuse me, I have to go tend to my sharks with frickin' laser beams strapped to their heads.
