Pine?
Half a million bachelors seeing that want to clear poly lacquer it, put legs on it, and call it a coffee table.. with a Swedish Twist, ja?  :icon_biggrin:

IPEA  :icon_jokercolor: Yeah ,  Getting nitro , maybe Amber & Red , we'll see .  should have a Shellac seal coat on it today .

hopefully I won't need it , I don't sand between coats and I'm trying something new . the Smooth coat . Pretty sure it doesn't get sanded .

Have you used the Preval sprayer before? I'm thinking of using one for the paint job I've been planning

once , it leaked so i tossed it out still have those left over . I did like the Spra-Tool I used once though . They can't be turned on their side much or maybe I just failed at using it .

I'm sure you've heard it before, but the warning for pine applies: crazy soft, easily dinged.  I built a tele out of eastern white pine (don't know if that's harder or softer than sugar pine) and even after 3 coats of clear poly, I could look at it harshly at it's got a dent.  I saw it a few months ago after my brother has had it for a few years: no major damage, but lots of visible scratches & dents through the finish.  If that guitar was a person, it would be the perfect background extra for a Mad Max movie.

Still, your other projects have turned out beautifully, and I have no doubt this will be quite the looker.  :icon_thumright:

...this will be my "player" and I'm hoping it takes some wear  :headbang1:

There's something to be said for a "rag ride" or a "sleeper". In some ways, it's more comfortable. You don't worry about it. As long as it plays/sounds good, you're good to go. Get yourself a coffee table guitar with ridiculously expensive pickups in it, fancy finish and so forth, and you don't dare take a break off the stage for fear the thing won't be there when you get back, or that somebody will pick it up and abuse it, or you'll make your own mistake(s) and bang the thing up. All heartbreakers. Who needs that noise?

I'm all in favor of a chewed up stealth-guitar.  My 'Hog is a sleeper - started out nice and shiny, but since I leave it out all the time it's gotten beaten all to hell.  Plus my little boy literally pounded on it with a wooden mallet, so there goes the glossy finish.

Here it is before:

I don't have an after shot, but suffice it to say it's never gonna win GOTM the way it looks now, even in a "relic" contest.

It is,  however, my favorite axe to play, hands down.
