String tree height?

I started getting some deadened open strings on my D and G, so added a second string tree. This solved the problem, but the break angles seem super steep, especially considering the tuning machines aren't staggered. Does this matter? Should I use a taller spacer or something? Am I die?

It is a little drastic. I would probably put a spacer on there to raise it up.

I’d put a spacer in there. The break angle you are looking for over the nut is that of your low E and A

Ok put in a bass string thingy (does this thing have a name??). Seems better.

(And yes, I did break a string and replaced them all 🙄)

Arguably, you don't need a spacer, just don't tighten the screw all the way. Either way works though.

Looks good though.

A sleeve will also mean the tree is less likely to rattle on a screw that is not tightened. No rattle is generally preferable.
