String buzz help

I have a strange problem.....just strung up a new build and I have a funny buzz on the 1st string, sounds kind of like a sitar.
It doesn't do it if I fret the string, only if it's open.

Any suggestions where to start looking for the problem????

There's a good chance you have nut slot issues on that 1st string.  Likely a little too wide for the string you have in there.

Max nailed it, I bet this is a strat with no string trees.  Add one and it'll go away

More info...
Warmoth cut the nut, so I suspect it is done properly, and they also installed it.
It's also an LP style with the shorter scale Warmoth Pro neck. It's angled and doesn't use the string trees.
I tried holding the string down behind the neck and it doesn't help.

Any more suggestions are appreciated

Show us a closeup picture. Sounds like it must be a nut problem if it goes away when fretting; the fact that it's a Warmoth nut doesn't tell you much. Anyone can make a mistake.
My strong hunch is the slot is much too loose (sitar) or it's cut too low and you're getting buzz on the 1st fret.

Got it!!
Pulled the string off again and looked really close at the nut slot.
There was some debris of some type, looked like the nut material in the slot, perhaps left when they cut it.. Evidently it caused the string to not make good contact.
Cleaned it out with a razor blade...good as new.
Amazing to me how something so little good make such a big difference.

Thanks for all the help
