Hi fellahs!

I wanna have a les paul with a carved top, non-finish-requiring neck, but with the tone of a strat.

which woods and pickups should I choose? is a canary/ebony neck on a maple/korina body + strat pickups good enough, or would it be just not it? I like the strat-tone every once in a while, but I love my carved top les pauls too much to dismiss them.

Dude I think that sounds right on. Personally I like the looks of a canary fingerboard on that canary neck. But yeah that sounds like a strat to me. My black korina bodied tele has a strat pickup in it, and nails the tone. You should be fine, I think.

thanks nathan!

and what if I put lace sensors in this guitar? those red/gold combination humbucker-thing-pickups? would that give me a nice stratty, glassy tone, but a full, fat, les paul tone too? (fat but screaming and tight due to the neck, duh :) )

I think the SSS configuration in Les Paul are enough ugly to send the owner/builder to the Firing Squad Wall!  :laughing7:

SD does custom wound strat pickups under HB covers, maybe others do it too
