Anyone know the typical diameter?  Want to see if the switch I have will fit and I don’t have an empty spare pickguard lying around.

Thanks.

Get a caliper. You will use it for the rest of your life for all kinds of measurements.

Potholes are typically 3/8" in diameter. Switch holes, such as you'll see on a Les Paul, are typically 1/2". Mini-switches like the kids use to put 349 different functions on their guitar are typically 1/4".

SustainerPlayer's right, though. You should buy a caliper. You'll use it a lot, and they don't cost as much as you might think. I mean, a good Starrett unit will run you $75+, but you don't need that. One of these for $17 will serve you well.

I have a caliper - a Harbor Freight job exactly as pictured.  Just thought someone would know off the top of their head.  Thanks.
