Strat Heel Shape, in a Tele Neck Pocket?

I see on Warmoth's site that it says you can mount a neck with a Strat heel into a body with a Tele Neck pocket. Curious if there are any negative affects when doing this such as any perceived loss of tone and or sustain since the neck is not really making full contact at the heel?

Hi there,

no it's fine.  Done it a few times.  The only issue is ascetic.

I did just that and simply cut the pickguard to fit a Strat heel and you'd never know. Of course, it's also covered by the fretboard extension.

This will show you how the fit actually is:

I'm sure there is someone out there who will claim to have such finely-tuned hearing they can perceive a slight drop in sustain or fundamentals or harmonics or whatever based on having a tiny, tiny gap between the corners of the pocket and the heel, but no, I've put rounded-heel necks in Tele pockets many times and never noticed any problems. The only thing that takes more consideration is getting a pickguard cut with a rounded heel to cover the gap, though if you have any kind of fretboard overhang (i.e. 22 or 24 frets) then that'll cover the gaps, too.
