Store straight neck?

Hi! I just got a Canary modern Warmoth neck. The neck has a small relief as it came. I want to check for high frets and do some end dressing of the wire, and then file the nut. But the neck could be stored a while before I put strings on. Is it ok and safe to straighten the neck for these jobs and then store it perfectly straight for a while? Warmoth recommend to make it straight before putting strings on but not much more information about this.

You're talking about two different things. One is storage, the other a set up. I don't think Warmoth would provide information on storage, they would provide advice on installing the necks ... think about it.

I'm no expert on the storage of necks but I imagine storing them under tension without strings countering the truss rod, would be wrong. Why don't you give warmoth a call? I bet before they are shipped they have no tension, and just do what Warmoth does. Makes sense? No?

Remember what tension on the truss rod does, it adds back bow. It's like what your Mom said about crossing your eyes, if you keep doing it, your eyes will stay that way. ;) There's no harm is starting the set up process, check for high frets etc (you probably won't find any), but the storage es algo differente.

I thought Mama always said if you do something else your eyes would stop working completely....... :p

But I would remove all tension from the truss road to store for a while.
