You know the story: here's the "before" -

Another interesting thing..since this is my last hurrah for a while, I've decided to go totally old school in approach to the album's artwork.  I found the dude that painted some of man-o-war's ollllllld stuff - this Finnish cat.  I'm really looking for something that creates a sense of wonder about what's on the media.  One of the coolest parts of discovering music as a boy was digging into the album artwork.  It used to mean something to me back then.  Now things are different and music plays randomly and anonymously from my iphone.  I want to end up with something physical my son can hold onto when I'm gone (aside from my gear if he's into it).

"Before" is great! What's the "After" going to be like?  :icon_thumright:

The before sounds pretty good already. What are you using for drums?

Also, agreed: the artwork brought so much to the listening experience. I used to LOVE it when a new Maiden album would drop. Powerslave. Somewhere in Time. Best covers ever.

Thank you!  I using the stock Logic kit (tweaked with EQ, compressors, etc) there, but the engineer is using another program to double some of the parts.  His mixes are so clear, reverb off the snare is audible lol.

I'm still finding cool things in the SIT cover!  I still remember the smell of the inserts in the tapes and CDs lol.  To be young again!

Ever notice the backwards words in the store window that say "This is a very boring painting"? Lol.

Drums? Don't want to spill?

Check again - hit post too quickly (dad brain).  I never did notice that haha.  I'm going to have to go to storage and find my old poster!

Edit: Let me regale you with this unbelievable tale.  I once emailed Derek Riggs (Iron Maiden album artist) and never got a message back.  Crazy, I know.  Just thought I'd share that.

Hugh Syme (Rush) is still working, but I reckon his prices are gonna be a little high.

Yeah, he might be up there ha!  He's one of the greats.  Been looking at Deviant Art.  Might have hope.

Loved the Iron Maiden album covers, along with Styx, Kansas, Yes, Rush.

As long as you're cruising DeviantArt, make sure your Family Filter is set to STUN.  You may get an eyeful of something a little more exotic than you might prefer to have the little woman spy over your shoulder.  Just sayin'.
