Starcaster/Mooncaster incompatibility

I've seen several threads mentioning an incompatibility between the Squier Starcaster body and the Mooncaster neck.  I'd like to know where the problem lies.  If the problem is aesthetic rather than structural, perhaps it's something I could live with.

I'm asking because I picked up a Mooncaster neck with the intention of mating it with a Starcaster body.  If I can get away with something that performs well but looks a bit off, it might still be worth pursuing.

If there's another body you'd recommend for the Mooncaster neck, please post that as well.

Welcome to the forum.

A Starcaster has a 22 fret neck with no overhang. I assume the Squier version is the same as this.

A Mooncaster neck uses a Strat Style heel with an overhang for 22 frets meaning while it would be incompatible with a Starcaster body it would be compatible with not just the Mooncaster but most of Warmoths bodies that use a Strat style neck pocket and scale length.

I get that.  So the question becomes, if I use the Warmoth neck on the Starcaster, will the problem be an ugly gap between the neck and the body, a fit problem where the neck won't bolt on or cause bad intonation, or both?

If the problem is a gap, I can either live with it or create a small block to close the gap.  In that case, I would be likely to go ahead with the neck swap.

It will not intonate as the two parts are incompatible regardless of whether or not one fits into the other.
