Stainless Steel Neck Screws?

I noticed that Warmoth was sold out of the gold and chrome 2x2 neck screw sets, and was wondering if anyone here had experience with stainless screws ... other than color, are there any known issues?

I've used stainless screws on occasion in the past and never had any issues. ............ :headbang:

I use them regularly.  They are harder and more durable than the run of the mill, and will not corrode if you encounter a spilt beer or something.  I buy them at Home Depot for something like 5 bucks for a bag of 25.

I use them on a regular basis for all kinds of stuff.  For my guitar necks, I install threaded inserts and use SS machine screws with those...

+1 on using inserts and machine screws.  Especially on guitars with the truss rod adjustment at the heel, necessitating loosening/removing the neck to adjust the truss rod.  Helps alleviate any chance of stripping the wood.  I've never understood Leo's design in this regard.

I agree on the inserts.  When Leo Fender started out he had little in the way of capital or machinery. So he tended to go with whatever was easy and cheap. His desire with the Esquire was that it be cheap to produce and easy to fix. So he used whatever was easy to obtain in the way of supplies and didn't require a lot of specialized tooling. .............. :icon_thumright:

Likewise. Except that I get mine at Lowes. I find neck screws from Lowes have more haunting mids and top end sparkle, but without the flubby bass you'd get from Harbor Freight neck screws.

My sister got bit by a swarm of stainless steel neck screws when we were young. She never really recovered. Something like that can scar you, man.

In my experience, SS neck screws are the only thing to use, as they're very strong as well as inert and unaffected by drool and suchlike. Plus, I'm clearly agnostic about color. Gotta keep your head straight - may as well use something that won't cause trouble later.

I used to use mithril screws but the dragon closed the mine.

Stainless steel screws are good with me.

Pretty sure it was the Balrog who closed the mine but same result.

You are correct sir Moria did suffer that fate. I was thinking of the mithril shirt that is given to Bilbo after being retrieved from the hoard of Smaug in the Lonely Mountain and where the last screws of mithril I was able to order for a princely sum on FeeBay were apparently sourced... I was assured they were genuine  :laughing7:

I am thinking of trying some screws made of gold-pressed latinum. However the only supplier I can find is a Ferengi. Price negotiations have not gone well so far.............. :sad1:

Walk away. It'll piss 'im off. Stuff's a tone suck anyway, being too soft.
