SRV Bluesy tone question regarding setup.

Absolutely. I love low-wattage amps; so much tone and character! I was so relieved when our frontman traded in his '65 super reverb, retired his twin, and picked up a little supersonic! The lower wattage lets 'im push the tubes into a nice break-up without destroying our hearing. Now, if we play a larger area, the amp just gets close-mic'd and the PA makes up the difference. So much nicer! -All the tone and none of the tinnitus.  :laughing7:

Wish I could be there to hear ya crank your 5 watt amp! It is gonna sound sweet!  :guitaristgif:

Yes, the 65's are the ones for that vibe. In fact they are the direct response to this issue. I would never call them the "Texas" set or try to tie them to an artist because I don't care for type of marketing. Probably to my misfortune but that is how I feel.
I have a tube screamer but never use it. I used to have a very nice old 66' bassman blackface with a 2X12 cab that would get that great tone. I really believe in trying to keep it simple. I wish I still had it...
Another part of that great tone he had was playing loud, and by that I mean he let the amp open up. Some amps respond well to "diming" all of the tone knobs then controlling the tone strictly from the guitar. This was the way Les Paul liked his setup. So I would try that.

That is all I needed to hear  :laughing11: I want em! I have to be patient I am in the middle of nursing school and am short on time and money. Dam just finished a guitar and want another. I could just get the pickups and the slowly get everything else.... ya... then maybe my girlfriend wouldn't notice either  :sign13:
I think the compressor is a good idea to try too.

How many watts does your amp run?

As far as pickups go for this setup, I think having a good single coil in the neck as apposed to anywhere else, is key. It will be hard of course to get that in between sound without a middle pickup but the neck is essential IMO.

Concur.  I'm running a set of Roadhouse 65s in a strat with 11s and its phenomenal.  Detuned a half step is even more of the SRV sounds.  Having once swallowed the higher output myth I'm thankful I tried the under wound 65s.  They are very versatile and that SRV/Texas rhythm thing is awesome through them.  Beautiful pickup set IMO.

I need to figure out how to record but for now I am just figuring out how to get tones. I have only played acoustics up until now. Also trying to learn some proper electric songs. I have played steel string and classical before this and classical songs sound funny but kinda fun. Might be a bit before I have something worth recording anyhow. I do like that I can crank it up and no complaints unless it is 10 o clock the girl gets a little mad  :confused4:  :icon_scratch: don't know why.

Little update. I got the Joyo vintage overdrive pedal today and got to play a little. It defiantly got me closer to a SRV tone. I am stoked. Pretty happy with the versatility I am getting with dual humbuckers and splitting them. It is nice going back and forth depending on what I am playing. One day I will have a pure single coil strat but for now Not a bad axe to practice and have fun on. Maybe I will get a tele one day too  :laughing11:
