Space heater that wont kill me

So I'd like to stuff a space heater in to my garage. I have a quartz thing on order for most of the time but if it gets below 20 out there I'd like a propane or kerosene heater.

Any suggestions? I'd like something that wont kill me. I suppose I could use the cats like canary's but I'd rather not.

Thots? They all say safe for indoor use but, as they say, dead men tell no tales.

Depending on the model, the quartz thing might be just the ticket.  They are radiant so they only have to heat up you.  Besides, minus 20 is not that cold.

I think Mayfly has the right idea. Those quartz heaters are really good. You may want to also look into infrared heaters. Home Depot has some good ones for reasonable prices.

When I built machinery, we had a couple long, cylindrical kerosene space heaters that sounded like jet engines when they ran. Looked liked them, too. However, we always had the shop doors open and everyone worked with ear plugs on. If you pointed one right at yourself, you wouldn't freeze. Not recommended for today's working environments.

Yeah, those bullet heaters put out more btu's than my furnace.

Think I'll start with the quartz heater first. They're like $50.

The problem with those quartz heaters is they cost a mint to operate. All electric heat is dreadfully inefficient. The only heat that would cost more would be to set the garage on fire.

Gas is a lot cheaper, and even nice new well-enclosed garages are typically pretty drafty places, so I wouldn't worry too much about the combustion byproducts of propane or LNG. They'll never get to even remotely dangerous levels. Then, whatever size you think you need, double it at least, or you're likely to be burning money without getting much heat out of the deal.

Pellet stove and run a flue.

The most of the energy consumption is in the fan.  I use one too heat my home all winter long, keeps my energy bill for a 1300 sq ft house down to about $65/mon, even with snow outside.

Ended up with some electric ones. Mostly cause my furnace is extremely unhappy and they can't make it out until tomorrow.
