Hey, I dont mean to be obtuse but, in this diagram where it says "ground wire from bridge", do you actually solder it to the bottom of the bridge?
I'm not using this particular diagram for my wiring but it's the closest example I could find.
Thanks
You rarely see ground wires soldered to bridges. Too much mass. You'd need a torch to get things hot enough, which would quite likely wreck the bridge's finish. Usually, they're simply stripped and clamped under the bridge plate or run into a small hole where the mounting post bushings are pressed in or attached to the vibrato spring claw with a screw or lug or are sometimes soldered there.
In the case of the Telecaster, it's not uncommon to use a strip of conductive foil tape bent over the lip of the pickup cavity so it makes contact with the bridge, and then you can either solder or screw your ground wire to that foil inside the cavity..
Thanks for your input guys, I ended up soldering the earth to the plate on the bottom of the bridge pickup, that way it's earthed to the bridge via the pickup screws.
You can also solder or crimp an eyelet to the ground wire and place it on one of the screws to the bridge pickup mounting. The spring makes conductive contact between the eyelet and bridge.
