Sometimes The Custom Shop Should Say No

I own a seafoam green W strat with a pearloid pickguard.

But I still think this Les Paul, which is a real Custom Shop Gibson, is futt bugly.

I'm doing a setup and cleanup on it, and it just hurts my eyes to look at it.

it reminds me of an old school washing machine... a bad one.

Bad good or bad bad?

The reverse V is actually a metaphor for the entire Gibson corporation, which seems to suffer a severe case of recto-cranial impaction.

And that Les Paul still hurts my eyes. I think it's the seafoam green; it's bluish tint is just not my thing.

I like Surf Green. Even thoough I don't surf.

But neither does Charlie...

EDIT: I should also admit that I like the reverse Explorer, though not that Moderne headstock. A reverse Explorer headstock would be okay. I may even build a Rev Ex soon...

you missed the holey explorer. but for the sake of us keeping our sanity i will not post a picture of the thing  :tard:

That is one of the few Les Pauls that I would play.  Then again, I am a big Sea Foam Green fan.  I think the best thing about it, is that it is so unlike a "normal" Les Paul color, but not super gaudy like a neon color might be.

I played one of those reverse explorers and it felt great, but then I realized how ugly and ridiculous it looked, so in short, it's the perfect guitar for blind people!

I would rock a seafoam green reverse explorer.

yeah but not with the moderne headstock and pickguard i hope!

the LP could be pulled off with an off white or creme pickguard and knobs, the tourtise can also work but im not sure about what knobs to match to that.

I'm sure I've seen an uglier color - but it was probably on a Fender guitar or a jail cell wall. Gibson, for all their faults, generally doesn't screw things up that badly. But, there's always a first time and there's no accounting for taste. I'm sure somebody loves it. Everybody's got a mother, right? <grin>

Okay, here's an update/question for everyone...

The owner said that this guitar sounded really thin, and frankly, it did. I didn't find it offensive, but when compared to other guitars, it was definitely quieter (output, not noise) and had less low end.

So, in an experiment, I took out the original pickups (which seem to be Burstbuckers) and put in some Dimarzio PAFs, a Pro and Joe, if memory serves.

Well, it doesn't sound thin any more, but the guitar is still bright and toppy as anything. It's got new strings, but that's not going to make this happen to the extent it's happening.

It's weird, since these pickups were in another guitar I had and didn't sound this way at all. I put them into the LP because I liked them and figured it would help.

There's no excess electronic gadgetry, it just seems the guitar is overly bright.

Thoughts?

Some pups just resonate differently in different woods...
