I was surfing craigslist for gear in OC and I came across this listing:

mayfly bc-30 amp,fender hot rod - $550 (garden grove)

Fender hot rod deluxe is made in USA, The Mayfly was one of the last amps made by Trevor May from Canada. Both amps are in great condition.

I was like "Wait, I know who they're talking about!".  Kinda cool.

TRIPLE POST.

Is that it, Trevor?

Wow, Trevor. I did a quick search, and you have a fantastic reputation as a business owner, amp designer, amp builder, and general person. Thumbs up to you  :icon_thumright:

And after more searching...
Well, this might scare Trevor if he doesn't know the methods.

Gimme a few.

May I also say, that is a fantastic cerca 2002 website. Looks like it could be modern. Trevor, you should consult for ceriatone methinks.

+1 and a few more
Very nice looking site, professional, and the type is friendly.

And here I thought I left my past behind!

Yep, it's all true.  I think I built just under 100 BC-30/15s.  I started building when there was just Matchless and, er, I think top-hat.  My main motivation was to make myself a good AC-30 with a good master volume that didn't blow up.

I got out of it because the boutique guitar amp thing exploded.  Seems like there are hundreds of guys out there doing it now.  When VOX started making a reliable AC-30 with a master volume, I knew my days were done.

And now I use a freaking modeling amp

Oh yea - nice site eh?  :headbang:

Hey Mayfly

That's great to see your past efforts.

Hope you made some money out of the venture.

And to think you now use  a modeller - is that an acknowledgement by you that modellers have improved to the point an expert like you doesn't need to build amps, or the fact that you are now in a situation at home where you can't blast away on a real AC30 style amp?

Thanks man.  Regarding the modeler:  It's really close, but I have to admit that it's not quite there.  However - it's so close that I don't even power up my own amps anymore.  For live though, you can't beat a modeler  because you've got full coverage of the club via the PA.  With a guitar amp only a few folks will hear it the way you intended it.

Regarding the volume thing:  My amps sound pretty good quiet, because of the design of the master volume.

I'm really surprised none of you were curious about what that BC-30 was he mentioned a few times.
