Slowly building a bass - mahogany and quilt maple, active EQ -

Also started an all rosewood gothic 6-string that will have a matching neck -

(It's just joined up drill holes to cut out the outline but I'm quite taken with the serated look.)

I've just acquired this block of amboyna burl that I've had my eye on for a year or so and got for a good price. It's going to be a one piece tele - imagine neck pocket on right, that smaller red burl filling the top horn/bout... Thinking about some Powertrons but might need something darker in this.

that quilt maple on the bass is awesome, and that slab of wood is beautiful! don't know about the gothic guitar yet. but i'll wait for the body to be smoothed out before i really pass any judgement on that one  :icon_biggrin:  nice stuff!

Amboyna burl is generally too busy for my tastes, but I think the red colouring of this piece really saves it. Always fun to follow your builds!

Man, one solid piece of burl for that guitar????? Me likey lots. I really like that side view with the different colors going around to the back. I can't wait to see this one finished.

Yup, one piece, 1.5" thick.  :icon_biggrin:

Strat top horn wouldn't fit the very tight dimensions of the block and I wanted either LP or tele to show all that small burl in the top horn (a start wouldn't allow that either).

:icon_scratch: Well...... the blank I bought was marked as 6.6kg (13lb) before it lost 10% in air drying. I've cut 2-3lb off so far, probably lose 2-3 more in cutting and routing so it won't be light!  :toothy12:

BTW, either these ebay prices are seriously bonkers or I got a ridiculous steal!
