Some fun with the "All Time Greatest Front Man Ever"

I saw DLR on the Eat Em and Smile Tour.  By far the funniest thing I saw, aside from the opening band (Poison, learn how to tune all those expensive guitars you had on stage with you, idiot)  was when Dave's set was begining, the band was on stage and started playing, when through the crowd comes a surfboard carried by 5 of the buffest dudes in the place with a smiling, writhing, balding (yes, you could see it even then) David riding atop.  Vai did all the "Hey, his guitar is talking" parts to perfection, and even whipped out the three-necked, heart-shaped guitar.  Friggin hysterical, carnival vibe, but that was about the last time I ever listened to anything he did.

Yeah... I saw the Eat'em and Smile tour in '86.  It was Roth's birthday show at the Meadowlands in NJ.  About 30 bikini clad girls, all of them as hot as it gets, came out on stage each carrying a birthday cake while the band played Happy Birthday... truly spectacular as only DLR can be.  Not to be overshadowed by the bikini segment, the band tore it up the whole night... opened with Shy Boy... Elephant Gun was in the set amongst a bevy of other beauties and classics.

Well, you have a good point there :)
would you agree if I said that they were better than any van hagar album??? ;)

I knew his "yeah"s and "ahhh"s were annoying... but wow, hearing them without the music is just intolerable  :sad1:

Bottle of anything and a glazed doughnut  LOL

I know it's probably blasphemy, but I'd much rather listen to Eat 'em and Smile and Skyscaper over 5150 or OU812 any day.  The first two have a permanent place in my car, the other two are collecting dust in my cave's cd rack.    The two DLR albums just rock.  A young Vai and DRL trying to prove himself vs keyboard and ballad heavy Van Hagar.  No contest.

:)

F.U.C.K. is a different story, imo Van Hagar's strongest most rockin' album.  (Don’t own the DLR album with Jason Becker so can’t comment)

I've got Skyscraper on Record. Never got to listen to it, though. I'll need to. I didn't have high hopes. Ha.

Those are both good albums, but in now way shape or form are they better than 5150 or OU812....

Maybe it's just me but the lick Vai plays in "Perfect Timing" at the end of the 1st chorus going into the 2nd verse, that descending super fast lick, may be quite possibly the coolest lick EVER.

It's a lot more 80's cheese than Eat 'em and Smile, but Vai's playing is far superior, and you can totally see him becoming more of the player he would be on Passion and Warfare and beyond.
