Thought I would share about these other projects I have going along with the NRFB. They're all Warmoth necks; see below for description. The Soloist is a Warmoth, poplar, OFR, Contoured Heel, 1 hum. The Iceman and Tele are non-W bodies. KnE Guitars, if anyone wants to know.
They will all get painted on by a friend, Mimi Leung: http://www.mimileung.co.uk/
For painting two, I give her one. She gets the Tele. I think her artwork would look great on, for example, a white Soloist with one humbucker and an OFR non-recessed. Very clean, very Warren DeMartini/80s, but in a good way. So I bought one. I also bought a white EMG 81so she can paint that too if she wants. I also thought it would look great on a black Iceman. But with totally cheesed-out appointments in garish colors so that the entire guitar just looks like visual vomit. Again, I mean that positively. Her Tele is fairly straightforward, HSS, double contours. Notice that the artist goes for style and class, and I pursue optical pornography...
For the necks...
Soloist: Superwide standard thin, all purpleheart, SS6115, Schaller locking tuners in black, corian nut. white side dots but black face dots. Not sure why, just seemed like the thing to do. Sort of subduing everything to spotlight the artwork. Will have a smoked chrome W logo.
Iceman: 1 3/4" '59 Roundback, maple/ebony paddlehead, SS6115, pre-cut graphite nut, no face dots. Note template in place. Headstock face will be painted black, the rest dyed black and satin cleared. I may dye the fretboard too, but I am not sure I can find the right stuff in Hong Kong. Suggestions? I've heard leather dye, water-based, and other things, but I have no clue.
Tele: 1 5/8 standard thin CBS maple/rosewood, 6105 frets, Corian nut, clay dots. I painted the headstock white because it looks better on this guitar than bare wood.
Like my 'spray booth'? It's the rubbish pile outside my housing estate (apartment building). Helps me keep my expectations low. But Pylox nitro in cans is cheap here, and I am learning patience. These will likely not be done until the fall, but I got the necks early so I thought I'd show them off.
The Soloist is the toughest one to leave alone. I can't wait to try out the purpleheart.
