Sold My Alesis Synth, GAS coming.

It's a rock solid controller, much heavier and sturdy than your average M-Audio Axxiom controller, but the real magic is in the software bundle.  All the classic analog synths, 3500 presets to start with.
I also have some other soft synths, like the Roland Groove synth (bundled with Sonar, crappy editor), the Kontact FM7, Emulator 3, EZ Drummer, and the Cakewalk/Sonar PSyn II which is really nice.

I'll use the Emulator for the piano's and more organic acoustic instruments, but I'm an analog synth buff, so I'll be all over this Arturia package.

In a way, it's kind of redeeming my error of ever selling my Roland Juno 106 back in the early 90's.  Regretted it ever since.

Very nice price on it also.
I also have a long list of "kick me for selling that" stuff.

It's a lot of bang for the buck in that regard.  This could easily sell for a few hundred more, but it's competitavely priced to move.

I'm really excited to get rolling with it!

I started out in a "synthband" before I picked up the guitar.

This gives me GAS for synths again.  :)

Guitar is still my primary instrument, but I do use the synth a lot to create textures/layers.  Maybe someday I'll focus on a project with the synth as the primary instrument and the guitar as a support instrument.  Got too much going on right now with the current project to focus on though.

Just don't "texture and layer" too much. That's what's wrong with the vast majority of modern music, if you ask me. Sounds like white noise. Nothing distinct about it. Nothing unusual. Nothing to look forward to. In a word: tiring.

I totally get that.  I'm not dense with it, unless its a deliberately orchestrated thing.  I am, however, particular about the type of keyboard sounds that I like, and this package with its emphasis on analog synths of the classic era are totally up my ally.

With us having a bit of a lean on the "Prog" side of our genre, it has its place, and unless there's a significant riff that's synth based, I prefer them to be tucked in the mix a bit, allowing the heavier guitar emphasis to be the core identity of our "band tone".
