Hufschmid, Blackmachine, Stinnett or any other guitars like these. What are your opinions, what have you heard, do you know of anyother builders out there doing something similar? I'm really thinking of building something like a Blackmachine B6 with a little Hufschmid flavor thrown in.  :headbang1:

I know nothin' about 'em pabloman  :dontknow:
... but I will say DO IT  :headbang:

I'd not heard of any of those until just now. So, I did a bit of Googling and from what I can see, it appears that these builders are highly talented types who are more or less ignoring the traditional in favor of using hardware and designs that not only make mechanical/electrical sense, but are practical and highly attractive as well. In other words, no beer can tuners, no six-hole or Eiffel tower trems, no noisy pickups, no knobs with pointless numbers, no controls with 37 functions apiece, no body styles that look like the spastic contortions of some sort of schizoid, real frets that let you get a grip on the strings, etc.

In other words, they're using the state of the art on pieces of art, as opposed to trying to satisfy the über-conservative who can't move off whatever Leo did 50 years ago or the childish who long to be different for its own sake.

As you know, that's what's nice about Warmoth -  you can do much the same thing right out of the box, although their bodies/necks don't go too far off the reservation. But, there's no need to replace crummy tuners, goofy bridges or impractical pickups - you just put the right ones on in the first place. Then, you have a wide variety of bodies and necks that can be built out of some pretty exotic woods that can be professionally finished or left to your own tender ministrations. It's a lotta fun.

Hufschmid is by far my favorite of the group, with Stinnet following. They are all very nice designs, without going over the top. Many are a bit dark looking, but still look natural, and definitely not bad attempts at being edgy.

Blackmachine is up to very light - very thin - very low action... But I saw some people telling about the waiting time and it wasn't really fun... Doug does his designs and how he thinks a guitar shall be and that is it...

Hufschmid I saw one or two guitars and the other never heard...

Yeah I don't think any of these guys are taking orders right now. They seem to be pretty backlogged. Their reviews all seem pretty awesome though. They are a decent price considering the handmade element. I believe Doug is getting ready to or has already begun using a cnc setup. I'm not much for the fake relic thing but the distressed finishes are really speaking to me. The Hufschmids especially have this real organic quality. I like it. I might have to build one.  :guitarplayer2:

I've seen plenty of Blackmachine builds at Sevenstring.org.

They get awesome feedback from customers, no major complaints, pretty straighforward builts with great attention to quality an detail.

You can accomplish the same with any Warmoth instrument with the proper set up though.
