so the new i phone is out but im not impressed, the samsung galaxy s series is better looking, bigger screen with in my opinion a better picture and they have android OS. i recommend it to anyone who doesnt want to make the switch to att and has i phone envy. the apple retina display has super high resolution but the samsung is just supirior technology, the anti glare coating makes the image very clear and the amoled panel keeps things thin as there is no back light and less power usage means the battery can be smaller. my biggest complaint about the iphone 4 is that the edges arent feathered anymore and despite its thin profile it look thick and not comfortable in your pocket.  those are all just observations though.

i wound up with the htc aria though i thought the price could have been lower. i like the htc widgets and wanted a smaller phone.

htc android phones are a perfect choice for anyone on any carrier though, not too big the text is clear, phone is responsive, better bass response on the headphone out than my iphone 3g and im sure that's important to every one here, replaceable batteries, insurance is available, selectable data plans, optional data plan, option to turn off data on phone if you are near you usage limit, on att i can change my plan on my phone from the phone as i go. it plays flash, supports widgets, i can change the keyboard, really the list of reasons it is better than an iphone 3gs is long.

so far i have noticed that itunes store is quicker to load than droid marketplace, websites load quicker on my droid than my 3g, both keyboards are equally annoying for different reasons, pictures are good but i wish i had a flash. i do miss visual voicemail though, att is slow to incorperate it but it is available on other carriers on droids

it was nice to see that someone has knocked apple off the the top in the area of wow factor. so iphone 4 does video calls, any android with the proper app can do that to anyone on any carrier who also has an android or iphone though on many phones the camera points the wrong way. now i am starting to develop samsung envy. apple needs to try a little harder next time with the galaxy s series htc incredible and motorola droid x on the scene.

bottom line is if you go with an iphone over a droid you lose. i fail to understand why they sold so many so fast and people were still walking into the att store and reserving them without looking at any other phone or weighing the options with data plans and insurance on the other phones, it is even known widely that iphone 4 has a problem with the antenna and needs a case so there new thin phone is not really so thin in the end, yet the iphone was selling its self, the sales reps didnt even have to try, f-ing rediculous.

I just ordered the iPhone 4 as my co-worker has it and it truly is better then my iPhone 3g.  If I had the 3gs, then maybe I would have waited. The processor is that much faster than mine. I'll pass my old one to my wife until an upgrade comes available then get her the 3gs as she really only wants it for texting, calling and a few apps.

On the other hand every person that I know that has the Droid absolutely loves it.

For a non-app phone, the Samsung Blackjack series is awesome as well.  The Original Blackjack had the best speakers I have ever heard from a phone.

^ yeah you should have looked at the captivate on the galaxy s line. both phones have amazing displays but in the end id go samsung not that the iphone isnt amazing i just think android has more to offer with available apps and widgets, i like that i can run things on my homescreen and not to have to switch applications to stop a running process, my calender and checklists are on the home screen staring right at me, makes it hard not to use, i never took advantage of those things on the 3g because they were easy to forget about anyway. but i like that the number of pages to the home screen on iphone is expandable, i want to run so many widgets now that if i get to many apps i many have to start them from the all programs list, but on the droid i like that the apps only take up space on the home screen if you want them to.

I have a Blackberry Storm II and am thinking of getting the HTC Droid Incredible. I am always on the net with my phone and this one has a fast processor. Motorola has a new Droid phone out too. I haven't checked it out yet. I believe it's called the Droid X or something like that. BTW this is all on Verizon.

Are you talking about the Samsung Vibrant? I was just phone shopping yesterday too and I thought this looked like a serious iphone killer:
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/mobile/mobile-phones/touch-screen-phones/SGH-T959ZKATMB/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&returnurl=
I think it's going for $99 with a service contract on Amazon too.

I'm a Sr. Systems Engineer at Samsung; we will have Galaxy S based models going to out to Sprint and Verizon, as well as the models that already launched at AT&T and T-Mobile:

galaxy s series will have one phone on each network, the captivate is on att and i think the vibrant is another one. obviously jack could elaborate better.

pabloman the htc stuff is on all networks already but the name on the phone varies, and verizon is the only one with the incredible, no one else has an equivilent to that from htc so far, or that i know of anyways.

jack i ask because i didnt see it mentioned anywhere but do these phones have accelerometers and magnetometers built in? i assume the answer is yes but id like to make sure

l can't comment publicly on models not released yet, but Vibrant/Captivate both have 6 axis accelerometers. Teardowns/component info should be up on the web if you use the Google....

6 axis i always thought that'd be a good idea, 3 doesnt account for rotation, good to know,  :icon_thumright:

+1 on the Vibrant. I work for T-Mo so I haven't tried the other versions of the phone but I understand them to all be pretty much the same. I have not found a flaw on this phone yet, and haven't had one complaint come in so far. If only I could justify a new phone every 3-6 months..

Didnt Apple do a major "rooster up"  on the iphone 4 making it bad with signal? my guess is they werent thinking straight, and besides....... Im not paying that money in england for a phone........ i wanna make calls and text and the occasional picture, 100 pounds top.... and will somebody bring back snake!!!!!!!!!!  ???

But overall nice to hear what you thinking of the 300 pound plus phones
Useful insight into the phone world i will never venture for fear of dropping 300 pounds of fragile metal!

att sales rep said the antenna issue was a problem with lefties who held the phone a certain way and a small fraction of a percent actually reported the problem but yes there is a known issue,

my concerns with the iphone where that you still cant get insurance yet you can get it on phones with similar features and that you must get one specific data plan which means 25 or 30 dollars tacked on the bill, it was 30 for unlimited but you can only get that now if you had it before the policy changed. now it may be 25 but im not sure as i didnt ask, they may still tack on 5 for visual voice mail as they have not developed an app for att visual voice mail on android maybe on purpose, there is a few 3rd party apps that do give visual voice mail and im using one called youmail, but bewere it uses data and the call forwarding uses minutes, as the person leaves a message it is still counted as a call.

id like to play with the epic when it comes out, galaxy s with a slide out keyboard and forward facing camera for video calls, and for verizon the facinate is identical to the vibrant but has a flash and maybe a forward facing camera for video calls. not sure on the camera for either one but i read that the internaional galaxy s has this.

you're not supposed to touch the bottom left corner of the iphone or it shorts the antennae circuit.
at least no one ever touches that corner anyways, right?

no reason to laugh, the original iphone cant do things that thing can, i hated picture phones when they came out, i thought using a phone as a camera was silly and added too much cost to the phone but as smart phones came out my gadget geekery started to get the better of me, now not only can i take pictures but i can check email, remotely access my desktop, play music (that's what really got me, now i can just carry a phone, no need for an ipod) tune my guitar, write songs take notes, play games, dyno my car, check the weather, manage tasks and sync to outlook, ect. the list doesnt end. but i can appreciate using a phone as a phone.

Hehe, all I do with my damn phone is calling people, like a phone is supposed to work :icon_tongue:

Im still using a motorola rasor...been working fine for 3+ years dont see the need to fall into the same upgrade pitfall we now have with computers.

Some of the RAZRs were awesome phones, I've seen some four years old and held together with duct tape in the middle that are still going strong.
