I hate the look of HSS Strats personally... no offense! I wanna do the whole "Strat" thing, and would love the versatility of the HSS set-up. Do those rail pickups come close? Playing funk and jazz with the the single coils and rock, hard rock with the bridge.

I think the rails have something to offer. I had one that was quite loud. The ones with ceramic magnets go kachunk-chunk fairly well and those mags possibly compensates for their size/config. I think for what you would like to do and play they would be worth the investment.

An SD single coil form factor JBJr. will do the trick; install it with an on/on/on toggle per the SD wiring diagram to set it to coils parallel/split/coils series for a variety of usable tones.

I agree, i have always played humbuckers, it's just since I joined this forum and refined my taste, that I like 3 singles in a strat, the humbucker in the bridge looks trashy to me now,,

Don't get me wrong, I know it's my perception, and I have no problem with humbuckers in the bridge spot. I built a warmoth for a buddy and we put a SD JB jr in the bridge and it sounded pretty dang good

do you remember what was on the neck and middle?

Whether they sound good or bad, they never quite sound like the full-sized version, IMO.  I do agree about the "unnatural" look of a fullsized HB in the bridge of a Strat, but sometimes it calls for that.

I can tell you that Hot Rails look every bit as unnatural in a strat as does a humbucker. On a side note, the Cool Rails sound great in all 3 positions. Didn't care for the hot rail that much.

One thing you might consider- YJM in bridge-or all positions. Tried them out on an Yngwie strat recently and loved it-good mix between strat-ish and HB -ish. Good bit of chug there, on hand, provided youre plugging into a decent amp to begin with.
I;ve several strats with HB's in the bridge as well as singles, and I find myself-nowdays-leaning back towards singles at the bridge.
But rails can work nice too-considering a set of those for one of my strats also.

Ah,forgot to mention- the YJM- dead silent. 100% Does a fantastic job of hum-cancelling without sounding like someone threw a blanket over everything, like so many other stacked-singles/single-sized HBs.
I was able to DIME the master on my 100 watt AOR, take my hands off the strat and face the cabs from 2 ft away and got ZERO noise, hiss, hum, buz or feedback whatsoever.  :icon_scratch: Try that with any standard single-coils....
