Just out of the box...short scale G4.  Nothing Fancy.
Alder body (going to be painted)
Maple neck (vintage tint) 30 inch scale
SS frets
MOP markers.
But the big surprise was the fretboard.  I ordered EBONY and got this.  I am guessing it is Macassar Ebony.  I am very pleased.

the original plan was pelham blue.  But my son wants stripes like EVH.

I think I am going to paint it Inca silver, mask off some stripes, and shoot some candy red.  I will remove the tape and shoot some more red.  The stripes will be there but kinda ghosted...

I agree with the

...The whole EVH thing is so passe now. I still have a Kramer I candy stripped years ago, but I wouldn't do another one..Just my .02

Yeah, the whole EVH goofy tape finish thing was his thing. It's not even attractive, and since it's unique all copying it does is make you look like gushing teenaged fanboi. Every time I see one of those things, no matter how nicely done, all I can think is "Damn. That'd be a bitch to refinish. Pass."

we have now moved past it.  Trying to decide on color now.  Whew!!!! :redflag:

Yes.  Matching headstock.  Gave the neck some Amber.

We landed on inca silver with some candy Apple red burst accents.  Should have some progress by Thursday.

Hey that's a really nice looking Bass  :icon_thumright:

Headstock looks great with the body, glad you didn't go the EVH look on it.
In years to come, he'll thank you for changing his mind.

Can get Ebony with that look.

Is that a musicman rout? and is that going to be 30" or 32" scale?
I would probably build me a 32" scale bass one day with a Jazz in the neck, and a Musicman in the Bridge along with an 18volt EQ system!
I love the Bass as much as I love the guitar, and can play "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen a little bit on Bass, not to good at right now though! Just a Thought, if anone was interested. Never know, I might build me a Bass instead of Guitar, as I have a little more interested in Bass then i do of the Guitar!    :guitarplayer2:

Music man with the Duncan MM PU.  It will have the Duncan three band EQ system with the push pull slap function.  I am also throwing in a switch to run series/parellel/single coil.  Pickup in is the sweet spot location.

I hope to get some more paint on this week.  Temps finally in the 80s with lower humidity.

Everytime I look at that body, it makes me hope they can scale it up to a G5 without charging an arm and a leg.  If so, all that's left to decide for my next build is that all important, "when."

I have seen this "Sweet Spot" mentioned on the Warmoth web site, but what is it, and what does this achieve? better sound maybe, is the only thing I can think of! (of course I was being a little sarcastic there) no offense! :icon_jokercolor:

Not a neck pickup, not a bridge...some place in between.  I think is it the location of Music man single pick up basses.

sounds like it's going to be a sweet bass for you! single battery or double?
single battery is considered 9 volt while double 18 volt gives more eq headroom, which is what mine will be cause I want a little headroom! I like a deep sounding bass, the kind that makes your windows rattle!  :glasses9:
