Shellac under Polyurethane?

Previously on this forum I've read that shellac can be used under polyurethane.  Yet my can of Bulls Eye Shellac states, "do not use under polyurethane finishes".  I'm  about to finish a neck and would like to hear from someone who's used poly over Bulls Eye Shellac.

Thanks.

Shellac can be used under lacquer... dunno bout poly... and if the CAN says NO, then ITS NO.

The final and most accurate answer will always come from a test board.

Never tried it, so I can't tell you.
I don't see the need for the shellac though.

I'm assuming some sort of minwax poly?

I have a feeling that can of shellac from Bulls Eye is not 100% dissolved shallac flakes in alcohol.  It probably has additives in the mix to further dissolve the sediments of solids for pressurized spray can application.

The can stuff has a preservative in it, that prevents oxidation of the shellac, even while the alcohol is still viable.  Shellac has a shelf life once dissolved from flake form, and BullsEye has taken pains to prolong its shelf life.  The can stuff is closer to mix shellac, as far less, or even no preservatives are needed due to the nature of the packaging.
