Im sure most have already seen the unboxed shots http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=9850.0

here are some crappy shots of the body after some light staining

I decided to just hit the front with a light coat of ebony, I did use the chardonnay on the back, and it looks ok, but I think it would have been too much red for the front. I really like the darkened Korina on the front though, the artwork is really going to stand out.

im also working on updating the Phoenix artwork, the design should look a little better

changed my mind, sanded back the ebony front a bit and went ahead with the chardonnay. Added a second coat to the back as well, and another coat of ebony on the end edge

haha thanks, i know there seems to be alot of "purists" on this site and so this project probably isn't going to be all that popular, but ive always walked to the beat of a different drum. I love the way this thing is coming together, wish i had the money to finish cranking this puppy out so that i can fire her up and see what she can do..

Some of us really like the vintage pieces, but I'm not sure if there's too many purists. Once you get clear coats on that, it will look great.

Agreed. Most "purists" I've encountered anywhere are too busy telling people how inferior their guitars are to real Fenders and Gibsons to be bothered building a Warmoth. Building your own guitar is totally about dancing to the beat of your own drum!  :laughing7:

I don't think this forum has that view Finch. More likely, I feel the forumites here tend to try and emphasise with your own views and try to appreciate the approach you take.

But if you were to post a Thread about modding a 60s or 70s Gibson EB Bass and refinishing it etc. I think there'd be genuine howls of dislike for what you were doing......

As someone else has said above, building your own project is about dancing to the beat of your own drum. We probably just need to be told the time signature! :laughing7:

It's looking good, and interesting with the staining process. :icon_thumright:

artwork and the first coat of spray on satin poly (btw dont do this in your bathroom unless you cover everything in plastic or want to spend time scrubbing your whole bathroom afterwards...)

this project has been on standby while i work on sprucing up my strat and wait for the weather to warm up enough to finish the clear coating, but i have been playing around with perfecting the artwork. Changed some of the dominant colors and shading, what i had originally didnt seem to work all that well with the chardonnay stained top. i also worked in a bit of black burst to help create more contrast, Im liking it more with these changes

looks great.  Tell me how it hangs on a strap when you get it finished.  I have always wanted that type of bass but was worried about neck dive.

a have a hard time seeing this thing neck diving much that black korina is a hefty chunk of wood, but i ll keep you posted

Got the neck and hardware for the first pickup in this week, so its all put together! I ll get some better photos of it over the next few days. This is a heafty beast but man is it a tone monster! I wired it up with the new Basslines blackouts concentric bass/treble preamp tone circuit. Works pretty well with the alnico MM. Lots of growl when you crank the bass, but it also does a good job of giving a nice clean clear tone as well. Still undecided on what EMG35 sized soapbar to stick in the bridge.

The neck is Wenge/ebony with gold frets and gold hipshot ultralight tuners. Body is Black Korina
