I just recently took my SG in to get set up and the frets leveled and crowned. This is a 74 that my dad bought brand new and has been in my possesion for about the last 15 years. The frets were shot and the set-up was horrible but I never play it so I never messed with it. Anyway I took it in and it really needed a re-fret. So here was the dilemma...I am never going to sell it so value should really have not factor but for some reason I couldn't bring myself to get a re-fret. I wanted it to to be all original so I opted for a level and crown. now the frets are REAL low. it chords beautifuly but takes some getting used to for lead and solos. I won't be taking it and getting it re-fretted as that would be about 300 and if I had done it at the time of the set up it would have only added 50 dollars to the cost. Just curious what others would have done. And as far as originality goes I know the bridge and stop piece are not original but they were changed out in the 70's and I still have the original ones so for all intent and purposes it is fully original.

Oh it is now in tune all up and down the neck and it sounds incredible!!!

The only reason I can think of to get a refret is to keep the original parts to resell. If you want to play it, get a refret. Or just sent it to me. :icon_jokercolor:

I personally like flat frets though it's been so long I doubt I'd be able to play a guitar with them without some practice. My V's frets were very flat and I liked it a lot at the time. Anyway, cool SG  :icon_thumright:

well I adjusted the truss put on 9's and raised the action just a bit and all is well now. p;ays like a million bux.
