Seafoam Green Jazzmaster - 1st Build Ever

This is my first legit build. My first "build" was a saga LP copy I put together using green automotive paint with a white racing stripe. I'm trying to keep it simple, as im in college and most of my money is going to beer at the moment. haha.

Anyway, I was hoping all you nice people could help me out with some answers to some questions I have:

- I am using Seymour Duncan SJM-3 Quarter-Pound pickups with one volume and one tone knob. Will this wiring diagram work? http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=2h_1v_1t_3w
- Also, I am using Reranch seafoam green (which the pictures do not do justice, it looks way better in real life) as well as Reranch primer and topcoat. However, when I put the nozzle on the topcoat can and sprayed a little on some cardboard to get it started, it came out white. Is the clearcoat supposed to be the same color as the primer and then it turns clear or did Reranch mislabel a primer can as a clearcoat can?
- The last question is just cosmetic, as I can't decide between a red pearl pickguard or a tortoise one. Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone. I have lurked on this board for a long time and I am excited that I finally get a chance to start a build and be a part of such a helpful forum.

Nice lookin' build! I don't have much to offer in the way of actual help, other than to say that white topcoat sounds fishy. But I,m sure people with a lot more experience than I will weigh in shortly, if they haven't as I type this. As for the pickguard choice, here's what I did:

If it is humid outside it will blush (Lacquer that is)  Spray a light coat on the cardboard and see if it gets hazy and then clears up in 15 minutes.  If it stays white, well then I suppose you have your answer.  Lacquer will condense some water out of the air when sprayed and that turns whitish.  This is why you have to go with thin coats of lacquer, the water has to get out, and the lacquer has to dry.  If you put it on too thick, it will get quite gummy.  Looks like a fun build.  I'd go with a tortoise shell pick guard.

One of my brothers has an urge to build one of those - I'll have to send him a link to this thread. I'm sure he'll want to watch your progress.
