Did some more work today.
- One final check on wiring. Turned out neck pickup ground wire came loose.
- Soldered on about 3" of additional wires to output jack, otherwise if I have to take off the pick guard it would be an absolute PITA.
- Finally drill and screw in the pick guard.
- String up, then had to take them off again because the neck was slightly bowed.
- Tighten the strings enough to see where things are at. Roughly adjust the bridge and pickups. Couple of times I caught myself turning the screws for mounting clips for the pickup. If that came loose it's off with pick guard again.
A few takeaways:
- The bridge pickup blades are curved unlike flat blades on the neck pickup so the middle two strings are closer to the blades, but once strings are tout I didn't get any buzz.
- It looks like the tremolo bar might hit the rather tall knobs, but that shouldn't be a problem unless I dive bomb it.
- The control is fairly straight forward: 500K pots, .022 Orange Drop, and 3 way switch. It's solder-less with screw-down but can still be fiddly especially in tight space. Advantage being that it's easier to make changes, but in hindsight it's not worth the hassle.
Next is all the little adjustments and tuning.
Lighting really show off the flame.
