How much is that in US $ ( I know the US $ is worth crap anymore!)

That looks pretty suspicious to me. The Monterey Pop festival one was smashed to bit, and Frank Zappa wound up with the one he torched at Miami Pop festival. Compare the pics below of the Zappa unit. One in article just auctioned has contrived looking burn pattern

This is a guitar Jimi burned as a stunt at a gig in Finsbury park, London.  It's not one of his 'famous' burn outs......

At one point shortly before the auction they were hoping it would go for around £500k ($1m or thereabouts).

that's crazy money, but then it's history I guess, and people pay for that.....

That one is documented as well; the piece just auctioned does NOT look the result of having lighter fluid sprayed on it and lit. Looks like someone very carefully took a propane torch to it. While Hendrix DID light one up at the Finsbury Park gig, I do NOT believe the axe pictured below is it. The guy shelled out $18-25K for a real '65 and took a torch to it. You cannot spray lighter fluid on a Strat, light it and get that end result; try it and you'll see. The pickguard will always come out tres melted/trashed, and it won't char into the wood as this appears. Compare it to the pics of the Zappa authentic torched Strat above, there are two different pickguards pictured as the original was completed trashed and had to be replaced to use the guitar.  http://archives.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/Music/08/27/hendrix.guitar/

Aahhhh, I see what you're saying now.....

Fair enough, there was a short news article about it, but I had'nt looked at it that deeply.

I have that Zappa picture hanging in my studio at my house. :-)

There's just something about the combination of Frank Zappa and Jimi Hendrix together that feels, historic.  If I were Dweezil I'd probably feel like I needed to wear gloves every time I touched it.    I guess he set it up as a standard strat, rather than the tricked out multi-switch version his dad had played.

Anyway... as for that guitar, yeah... total fake.

Dweezil sold the Strat for major cash back in 2002.

Actually, it went up for auction, but never reached the reserve price, so it never sold.  Dweezil still owns it.

Does that sound right to you guys that he only burned his guitar on 3 occasions?  If so, then this one is definitely a fake since the Zappa one was burned on two of those occasions.  If you were gonna fake a Hendrix burnout wouldnt you use lighter fluid instead of a torch like Jack says was probably used?  Duh.

Has anyone burned their strat with light fluid to recreate that look?  Vai did it to one of his Universes back in the day .  might be pretty cool.

By all account Hendrix only lit up a guitar on stage those three times, there is no verification that the Zappa one was the one burned previously that I can find, nor any pictures of the Finsbury Park burning. What'll you give me to torch an ash body with a nitro finish?

Crap!! I made that picture my computer background   Should have known it was fake, way too much charring going on there .

That sounds like something I might like to try myself... let the inner pyro have some fun!      this is a weird one cuz the story does sound like it could be possible, but the burns don't look right.

I can just see Jimi now - he throws his guitar on the floor as it's howling with feedback, grabs the lighter fluid and then very, very carefully squirts it around on the wood so that absolutely none of it spills onto the pickguard, not even a drop - he even splashed a little on the lower edge! Without damaging the pickguard... I never know lighter fluid could burn so deep....
