Schaller Straplocks discontinued

All suppliers with whom I have had contact, even the European ones, have nothing good to say about dealing with Schaller, and, once prompted, only say bad things.  I'm sure you could still get those straplocks from guitarsupplies.nl, or thomann.de however.

That really sucks.  Those are the only straplocks I use.  I was going to buy Dunlops, but was urged that the Schallers were better, and I agree.

As far as being difficult to deal with, I've never had to deal with them directly.  I'd add Hipshot to the list for me personally.  I know other members of this board have had pleasant dealings with them, but not me.  Regardless of their service and demeanor, Schaller and Hipshot both make great stuff and you can get it without getting it from them.

I am a huge fan of Warwick strap locks, though I'm putting Dunlop's on my P bass as they're easier to get and cheaper. I like that Warwicks actually screw onto the strap instead of just having some lock washer or whatever clip into place. I wish I had jacked them off the Corvette I had for a week.

I've been using Schaller strap locks for damn near 20 years and have NEVER had a problem with them coming unscrewed/bolted from the strap. I heard a few people around here with horror stories but I honestly can't relate. Anytime someone asks me about strap locks I immediately steer them to the Schallers. I guess these Grovers would be alright, they look exactly the same.

Wow, I don't understand. Schaller must be pretty much the biggest player on the straplock market.

After having played bass for like 17 years, I installed my first strap locks only a couple of months ago. (Should have done that years ago. Would have prevented some serious damage on one of my - now retired - basses).
I went for Dunlops (dual design) simply because I think they look better and I'm now glad that I did.

I use the schaller exclusivly.  best on the market IMO.

Grovers look like the same design...wonder how they are.

My son had the Dunlops.  I hate them.  They are a pain to take on and off and the strap attachment screws always come loose.

HA, I've always used the Dunlops and have never had a problem...
Sorry they didn't deliver for you, but I like em!
My buddy uses only Schallers and loves them. It's really 'whatev'
I chose Dunlops mainly because they are low profile. I don't really like the pin that sticks out of the Schaller design. They work great though, so for me, I made the choice based on looks.

The Schaller site says nothing about it.. I'm sure you'll be able to get them somewhere.. they probly just couldn't get trade terms agreed upon.

It probably will be...hopefully!
I was going to get a Schaller Floyd, but my local dude said it would take two months! It was cheaper than stew-mac though.
I think with them it's totally dependent on the dealers relationship with them...hopefully!  :toothy10:
It'd be sad to see these go.

Honestly, for the last half-year or so, I've been using my strap locks like this:
the strap goes on the strap button, and the strap lock is put on top of that.
I don't like it, since the washers fell off, and I can't find them.

Looks like a Stew Mac phenomenon, not Schaller. Both W and a couple of German retailers list the Schaller straplocks without any mention of them heading for oblivion.

I find this all an odd story: This thread mentions them being discontinued @stewmac too. However the posts are from 2006!

Ha, that's interesting. We'll see how this pans out.

My only critique of the Schallers is that it is very hard to put a thick strap on them.  The "bolt" that the strap fits around could be a litle longer.
+2. One for each straplock.

Now this I can agree with 100%. I've got a custom made strap that is pretty damn thick and I really had to work it to get those things on. Even on a regular strap they could afford to be a touch longer with that bolt.

Oops, should have been more specific.  Nobody complains about dealing with Schaller in terms of them being rude or anything like that, just that their backorder situation is atrocious.

I wrote Schaller an email and they responded promptly and were helpful and seemed friendly.

What probably happened was that Stew-Mac is running out, and has no idea when Schaller will send them more.  Probably not a good idea to have a product for sale on your website and then have it say "out of stock, backorder 12 months", so they didn't have a choice but to say the item is "discontinued".
