I sent my finished Warmoth Telecaster build to have the frets plek'd, and I asked the luthier to set the Floyd arm so that it would swing freely. I tried to do this myself before I sent it out, but couldn't get it to work. I assumed it was a different design than the last Floyd I had, and that I was doing something wrong. He told me that the Schaller design did not have an adjustable arm like the Gotoh Floyd does, and that the only way he knew of to fix it was to modify the baseplate to use a Gotoh arm with an adjustable tension nut. Unscrewing the Schaller arm to make it swing introduces excess play into the bar before it begins affecting the pitch.
For those of you with Schaller Floyds, how do you get around this problem? Is there anything that can be done? I never would've picked the Schaller unit had I known this, the Floyd is much less useful to me if I can't get the bar into and out of my hand quickly. Thanks.
