Satin over oil?

So I have been doing a coat of linseed oil on my birdseye maple neck and walnut body every other day or so. I decided on linseed oil after seeing this guitar:

The body is definitely a perfect chocolatey kind of brown i want. The oil really accentuated the birdseye figuring in the neck - it's really really awesome
I think both have a somewhat reflective sheen to them in certain lights, and while this looks fine on the light colored maple, i don't really like it on the dark walnut. I just find that kind of reflectiveness to be distracting from what's otherwise a rich, complex kind of color and look. It's clearly more noticeable in the deeper grain that seems to hold more oil.

I was wondering if it was possible or made sense to go over the oil with a satin finish like, as i've seen suggested, minwax poly.
Would that be doable? Would it be easy? Would it have a smoother looking result or is it really gonna be no smoother looking than an oil finish?

thanks everyone for the help so far. I'm gonna try and sell my ibanez artist so I can buy the hardware and finish this guitar sooner.

Fine steel wool will knock it down nicely... some 0000 should do.

Dont get pickups anyplace close to steel wool.  Or pots!

After you do that, I humbly suggest vacuuming the body, and washing it totally... with naphtha

so basically uber-fine steel wool kinda roughs up the surface on a tiny scale so you dont' get even surfaces creating reflections. Is that my understanding?
CB you seem to be an infinite well of knowledge. One day i hope to find you and eat your brains.  :icon_biggrin:

and when i googled naphtha it came up with several things, so which particular product is going to be applicable here?
