Satin Neck - Final Sand/Polish Necessary?

I have completed spraying the finish on two necks.  One is satin nitro and the other is satin poly.  Both finishes look good, although they are slightly dull and not as good as factory.  My questions are: i) do I need to do any final sanding and ii) do I need to do any buffing/polishing?

I tried wet sanding(1200/1400 grit) and buffing/polishing(orbital polisher) on a test piece, but it turned out looking worse than if I did nothing.  What next?

Thanks.

You can't polish satin finishes if you want them to be satin finishes. They turn into gloss finishes. Even simple handling will do it over time.

Normally, you sand to level with something like a 320, then use either steel wool or a 3M Scotchbrite pad to burnish them. Anything more than that, and you're working at cross-purposes.
