I'd like to coat all my maple necks with tru-oil. Does anyone, who's done this before, please let me know what the procedure would be? What grade sand paper, how much tru-oil, etc. Thanks!!!

I'm using the same process as chrisg, although on a jazz bass body and will be starting a VIP body shortly.  I had a bit of a setback with the j-bass and got some great advice from CB that's worth checking out:

He addresses the sandpaper question as well as adding some suggestions for polishing, which is going to be crucial if you're using Tru-oil on a neck where you'll need it to be fast and smooth (presuming that's the feel you're after).  I've been testing out various finishes on some pieces of black korina that match my VIP neck, and I have to say I'm leaning toward Danish oil with a few coats of wipe-on poly, then the sanding and polishing procedure CB suggested in the linked thread above.  The Tru-oil test piece certainly feels smooth, but the poly is just a bit smoother, and with the Danish oil underneath I think it looks pretty great.  It might be worth doing some experimenting on some scraps of maple to figure out the best combo for you and your new neck.  Good luck!

A point to note here is that Tru-oil meets Warmoth's warranty requirements but Danish Oil doesn't.  In saying that though I also like the look and feel of a Danish oil finish.
