Routing or no routing

Hey Warmoth fans:

I'm sorting out details of a Jazzmaster / Split Jazzmaster 12 string build.  I'm leaning toward a set of Gemini toasters.  Question regarding the rout.  What size rout would be best.  See diagram.  Or am I OK with surface mounting?  Is there enough space under the strings?

If they are anything like genuine Rick pickups, then they are intended to be surface mounted.

BUT

Ricks have the strings a loooooong way off the body.  Beware of that. I would get a good drawing of those pickups and confirm the geometry.

oh yea - just looked at it.  Seems like the drawing is good enough

Yep - that's about the height of a typical rick pickup all right - about 1/2 an inch (13mm).  The pickups are boosted up by another 3mm or so due to the foam under the mounting plate.  You probably want those strings up another 3mm beyond that. so now we've got those strings 19mm off the deck.  That's high for a fender, but it's fairly typical of ricks.
