I find myself trying to decide between which of these is right for me.  I did a quick overlay to help me decide.  I hope someone finds this helpful (it's not helping me haha).  I might end up with a Fatback- something I can sand down to size if I don't like it.  If the image below doesn't show up, please check my tags- the hosting service I use is blocked at work, so I'm doing this blindly.

Best!

hi mate, not sure if this will help. i tossed and turned over different neck contours, my first ended up being a boatneck. my second ended up being a standard thin (as it was off the showcase and met the tonewoods i wanted).

my boatneck is far and beyond my preferred neck. i have actually lightly sanded down the "v" (as it can feel a tad sharpish) and it fits my hands like it was made to my exact spec. also, on a side-note, i notice the tuning stability is far greater in the boatneck, as the standard thin has more neck "flex". the boatneck is absolutely rock solid.

so in your case, don't be afraid to go a little bigger than you think you might need, as long as you're not completely incompetent with sandpaper  :tard:

oh, and go raw neck!! my boatneck (wenge/ebony) is still the best feeling neck i have ever played!! beats the feel of my standard thin rosewood too. wish i could swap my rosewood for another wenge neck.......

+1

I went with the boatneck with the 1 3/4" nut, and love it.  I have pretty big sandwich grabbers, though.  Feels like an acoustic neck, which is awesome with the t bridge I have in it.  I sometimes approach the way I play it like you would an acoustic......
