I've been thinking the same thing - they have replacement bodies as well.  You can get a tele body for $40 bucks.  That's a lot $$ left over to do some experiments.

Be careful... those finishes scratch and ding when you look at them funny.  I've built three teles from those bodies, and while they look decent and were pretty well made otherwise, the clearcoat is a bit like dried cake icing.

I figure I'll put it in a plastic bag with a wet sponge for a day or two, scratch it, then let it rattle around in the back of the car for a bit.  I'll scrape off any finish that's loose, then oil it to make it dirty looking.  Once I'm happy, then I'll invest in the rest of it.

Well, that's nice, but they charge more just for that plate than Warmoth charges for a whole tele bridge, saddles and all. I imagine economies of scale come into it.
