Rickenbacker

Allright!  Next Rick.

Here it is.  The one that everyone wants.  A 360/12, in jet glow finish:

Here we have:  Bound neck, body, and 'f' hole, two octave through neck with dual truss rods and triangle inlays, hollow wings, a black finish you could dive into, and tone.

Oh yes, the tone.  This one has it.  It's got that clear as a bell crisp but with sustain ringing sound.  It's a pain in the ass to play because of the narrow neck, but I love this guitar.

thats awesome..  do all rick 12's have that contour at the tailpiece? I've never seen one up close.

I heard that these things have a tendancy to feed back rather badly.

Love your Rickys, thanx for the photos.

I owned a Ricky 1997 model way back when. But it's long been sold.

I was wondering what was happening with the Rickenbacker company of late? I was actually going to post a thread enquiring, but then I have seen this, so I thought I'd ask here.

In Australia they do not have a Distributor, which means that folks desperate to get a new Ricky have to go to the Japanese distributor and buy from there and import it. This doubles up things like sales tax and of course the cost and risk of importing the instrument is your cost too.

Australia has a market for Rickenbackers, so it does seem strange they haven't negotiated with someone to do their wholesaling & distribution for them. Obviously not a big market but Rickys have sold quite OK here, for a long time.

The only Rickys we seem to see now in Australia, is very second hand ones & way overpriced imports.

Hmmm - I duno.  Maybe this is a business opportunity for you...

Or you could just buy my 620  :icon_jokercolor:

Thanks man!  All the hollow bodies have the contour - but the solid bodies (like the 620 and 620/12) don't.
Regarding feedback, I've never had an issue - but I'm not using it with a high gain distortion tone either...

Whats the nut size? on the black 12

Not sure off-hand, but it's narrow.  I'll measure it when I get home.

The 360/12 has a neck width of 1-5/8 at the nut.  Pretty narrow - for a 12 string!

I have a 360/12 in Fireglo.  It is love hate.  If I were to play it and only it, I could probably deal with it.  The transition is killer.  It looks great and has some prestige, but gigging with it is a nightmare!  Getting it to the club and letting it acclimate to the ambient temp, trying to tune it with a digital tuner (the F-hole just acts like a microphone to the tuner, picking up every frequency but the one I'm tuning to).  Once it's tuned, it's an attention getter, everyone who's ever played, or known a guy who played, wants to hold it and strum it.  Guess what, time to tune it again.

LOL, if only I had business acumen and capital to spend setting up a company to do all that..

BTW, I have an interest in a 381 in mapleglow. Love the carved top, it's on the list of things to buy when I win the lottery!

I have a thing for a 330 in Fireglo, but I may never get one.

Regardless, I have a "cold dead fingers" arrangement with my ric 4003.  Love that bass!

This is humour on a high level, from the description of the 1996 model from their Vintage Series:

"Available in Amber Fireglo only (at no additional charge)"

Well it's a good thing they don't charge extra for putting a finish of some kind on the guitar I suppose, but still...
