Reparing chipped finish?

I'm currently bidding on a guitar on ebay that has a major chip in the finish on the back of the neck, as well as a big scratch down the back of the body. I've pictured them in attachments.
I kinda regret bidding before doing any research, but I figured that it can't be that hard to repair the crack in the neck finish. The scratch on the back is kinda irrelevant; I could probably buff it so it's less noticeable and be happy.

What would you guys recommend for taking care of the back of the neck? I know that worst case scenario, I can sand down the finish on the whole back of the neck and redo it somehow. It wouldn't be pretty but the guitar's a steal.

Thanks for any tips

Dye the wood with water or alcohol based dye, not oil stain.  Drop fill a few times with super glue.  Use fresh glue and let each single drop dry completely before adding the next.  Tape off the area around the repair too.  When you have it all filled and higher than the surrounding finish, scrape down the glue, then level sand it with a small block, and buff.  It should get you a really good repair.

Leave the body alone and just play it

so essentially I can fill the gap with super glue, and it'll be nice and smooth after it's buffed? that sounds excellent!

The key is the leveling -

Look at what Frank Ford does with tape on a razor blade.  www.frets.com  read in there for the tips

You put tape on the ends of the blade and that acts as a "shim" to keep the sharp edge off the existing finish.
Tape is maybe .002 to .005 thick, so you end up with a little section that is just slightly raised up from the rest of the finish.
At that point, get a hard "art" eraser and put some 400 grit paper on it, and level out the little raised spot.  Then, you do the new and existing finish with some 800 paper, and since its poly go ahead and bring it to about 1000 grit then buff with some "Mothers" aluminum and mag wheel polish, followed by some car wax.  Done.  Mother's is the tits.

Yep, I go psycho about neck dings, and superglue's the stuff. There are various thicknesses, but you can also get some accelerator that dries it really quick. The accelerator come in a fine-mist spray bottle, which is a trick to test you for mental retardation. You want to drip it on like a tiny bit at a time, with a toothpick. Once I get a little bump above the ding, I usually get it flat and even with a tiny flat file, then shine it up.
