hey guys,

Got my order in for the neck and body to warmoth for my first build this past week, and now for the long wait hah.

in the meantime, i'm trying to order the remaining parts so things will be ready.  As this is my first build, i'm looking for what other parts i need, with maybe a recommendation or what brand/type.

this will be a tele with a tele bridge and p90 neck
what i've got covered:

body
neck
pickups
2 pots (vol and tone)
capacitors
tuner hardware
jack
strap locks
copper shielding tape
tele bridge

things i know i need, but haven't picked out/decided on

pickguard (waiting to see body and neck in person)
knobs (also waiting to see)
neckplate
switch - 5 way (any recommendation on a particular product?)
bolts for neck

I guess i need some screws to attach the pickguard?  Do i need string ferrules?  Am i missing anything else that yo guys can see?

and slightly off topic, i scored a cocobolo neck, and i just want to double check- cocobolo is one of the woods where i do not need to seal/finish, correct?  I like the feel of an unfinished neck, but i'd rather it not bend on me.  Having a doubt whether i should have warmoth put a finish on it or stick with the plan and leave it unfinished...  any thoughts?

thanks!
(now time to wait ~12 weeks)

Ok, last things first, cocobolo is good to go raw—no finish required  :icon_thumright:
And don't even think about putting a finish on it ... well, if you do just don't mention it around here :icon_biggrin:

Pickguard screws ... how many depends on pickguard, whether 11 hole or vintage (5 I think). They're a standard size and most guitar parts places sell 'em.

Ferrules, depends on whether you want to string through or whether you do bridge mounted strings. Most standard teles are string through so yes you'd need ferrules.

You also need to be able to wire it all together—soldering iron, solder, wire etc.

A couple of things to check:
  • Did you get a contoured heel on the body? If yes you will need Warmoth's 2 x 2 neck screws (2 x short, 2 x long).
  • Is it a front route body? If yes you will need a control plate to mount the knobs and switch on.
  • Make sure you get the right size knobs for the pots you ordered. Tele pots are normally solid shaft and require knobs with set screws, but of course it depends on what you ordered.
  • You've got the jack, did you get a jack cup? Warmoth sells them as a set for Teles.

I've probably forgotten something, but someone else will pipe up.

Enjoy the wait (it's the hardest part)
